Top 3 Holiday Grocery Trends of 2023
It’s that time of year again, where retailers are eager to show off the slate of seasonal products that they have been hard at work on for the past 12 months. The holiday season is tremendously important for retailers and suppliers, as it allows them to debut new and unique products and gauge the market before consumers’ spending habits take a much needed break into the new year. Sales will be made and trends will be established, but not everyone is a winner. What compelling products did we discover, and which retailers were industry tastemakers this year? Here is our top 3 trends we saw on the grocery shelves this holiday season. Interested in more? We are starting a newsletter! The first newsletter in your inbox will include our full 2023 Holiday Report.
Plant Based Holiday Nog
While pursuing the dairy aisle at certain grocery stores, you might notice something different, at least when it comes to egg nog. The “nog” is there, but the “egg” is conspicuously absent. Alternative milk heavyweight Chobani has come out with Oat Nog, and Califia Farms has released an almond milk-based Holiday Nog. Even retailers like Whole Foods Market and Target have released their own plant-based nog.
Stuffing Seasoned Snacking
Have we found the successor to the Pumpkin Spice throne, or even the next Everything Bagel seasoning? Only time will tell, but a number of private labels and brands have come up with their own versions of Holiday Stuffing-flavored snacks (mostly in the form of potato chips). For many of us, the stuffing is the best part of our holiday meals. Trader Joe’s has upped the ante and went above and beyond, coming out with Thanksgiving Stuffing Seasoned Popcorn and even an Everything but the Leftovers” Seasoning.
Flavored Whipped Cream
What is better than whipped cream on your hot chocolate? Not much, it would seem. Until now… Retailers are putting a new spin on an old classic in the form of flavored whipped cream. Target’s favorite day sub-brand has whipped up (sorry, we had to do it!) a whole suite of flavors for the holidays, from Gingerbread to Peppermint, Hot Cocoa to Salted Caramel, all sweet toothes shall be satisfied.
