This year’s SuperZoo proved once again to be the mecca for all things pet, with innovative products packed across the showroom floor. While technology was certainly having its moment, from AI-powered smart feeders and health trackers to inventory dashboards, our focus was on the CPG products that are or could be hitting pet store shelves soon.

Our biggest takeaway? Pet care is becoming more personalized, intentional, and human-inspired.

Pets have become an integral part of the family, and increasingly, the same standards we apply to our own food, wellness, and personal care are shaping what we buy for them. We don’t want dog food with a laundry list of unfamiliar ingredients; we want recognizable, purposeful nutrition. We don’t just want food that fills a bowl; we want food that does more. And when it comes to products we put on our pets, from paw wipes to shampoos, we’re looking for the same clean, natural, thoughtfully formulated solutions we seek out for ourselves.

Across the show, this shift came through in three major trends: targeted nutrition, simplified ingredients, and cleaner pet care.

Trend #1: Functional Pet Food Gets More Targeted

Farmfetch Fish Hypoallergenic Allergy-Friendly Support, Year of the Dog Frozen Supplements Total Wellness Chicken Soup, Fera Pets Longevity Soft Chews, Pawp Hip and Joint Water For Dogs

Human food has increasingly become more about what a product can offer beyond basic nutrition, and pet food is following the same path. Functionality is moving beyond the supplement aisle and directly into everyday meals, treats, hydration, and other formats.

Farmfetch Pet is a great example of this shift. Each of its fresh, gently cooked recipes is formulated around a different functional benefit. Its beef recipe targets gut and muscle support, while its fish recipe offers hypoallergenic, allergy-friendly support. It reflects a larger shift away from one-size-fits-all pet nutrition. Pet owners increasingly want products tailored to their dog’s age, breed, lifestyle, and specific health needs.

And as functional food continues to grow, targeted supplements are becoming even more specialized. One area we saw gaining momentum was longevity, and not just for senior pets. Instead, brands are focusing on supporting healthy aging long before a pet reaches its senior years, following the same proactive-not-reactive approach that has become prominent in human wellness. Fera Pets introduced a Longevity Soft Chew formulated to support healthy aging, cognitive vitality, and cellular energy production. Rather than focusing on prolonging a senior pet’s life, the product is positioned around supporting a pet’s long-term health and vitality.

Year of the Dog takes another approach with frozen, human-grade supplements made from whole-food ingredients. Its formulas target specific needs including gut health, brain and heart health, anxiety, and hip and joint support—bringing functionality into an entirely new format.

Even hydration is getting the functional treatment. Pawop Water offers premium functional water for dogs, with formulas targeting hydration, gut health, calming, and hip and joint support. Its electrolyte formula contains things like sodium, potassium, and magnesium, while its hip and joint formula incorporates collagen. The opportunity for functionality is no longer limited to a chew or powder. The benefit itself is becoming the foundation for product innovation.

Trend #2: Quality Without Compromise on Convenience

Unconditional 100% Air-Dried Beef Recipe, Instinct FreshDried Meal Blends Grass-Fed Beef & Wild Berry Recipe, Nom Nom Scoopable Meal Clusters Chicken & Sweet Potato Recipe

Alongside functionality, there is a push toward simpler, limited-ingredient products. Pet owners want to understand exactly what they’re feeding their pets, but they don’t necessarily want the storage, preparation, and handling that traditionally come with fresh or raw food.

That tension between quality and convenience is creating an interesting space for innovation.

Instinct introduced its FreshDried Meal Blends, promising fresh meals in 60 seconds: add water, stir, and bloom. The format delivers minimally processed nutrition without the freezer or thaw time. The recipes are 100% raw and never cooked, using whole-food ingredients freeze-dried at peak freshness to preserve nutrients and flavor.

Unconditional is approaching the same challenge through air-drying. Its recipes use 80% meat protein paired with simple ingredients. The low-temperature air-drying process gently removes moisture while helping preserve nutrients, resulting in a shelf-stable format that offers the benefits of minimally processed food with greater convenience.

Nom Nom tackled convenience differently with its Scoopable Meal Clusters. The product delivers real, vibrant nutrition in a frozen format without the traditional thaw time. The clusters can be poured straight from the bag, creating a simpler way to serve high-quality frozen food.

Across these brands, the takeaway was clear: cleaner food shouldn’t have to mean more complicated food. Consumers are looking for fewer, better ingredients delivered in formats that realistically fit into everyday life.

Trend #3: Clean Care Goes Beyond the Bowl

Stuck Soap Silent Grove Dog Shampoo, Off Leash Rinseless Shampoo Lavender & Cedarwood, Luminoble Prebiotic Pet Shampoo Oatmeal Formula

What we use on our pets is becoming just as important as what we put in them.

As consumers become more conscious of the ingredients in their own skincare, haircare, and personal care products, those expectations are extending into pet grooming. The result is a new generation of pet care brands borrowing cues from the clean beauty and wellness categories.

Off Leash speaks directly to the modern pet owner with plant-powered formulas designed to be clean, calming, and conscious. Its lineup includes pet wipes, rinseless shampoo, and an everything balm. These are all everyday essentials elevated through thoughtful ingredients and modern branding.

Stuck Soap brings a K-beauty-inspired approach to dog shampoo, focusing on high-quality, dog-specific ingredients. Its lineup is vegan, high-performance, and pH-balanced, bringing some of the language and standards of premium human beauty into the pet aisle.

Luminoble goes even further into skincare territory with prebiotic grooming products formulated for sensitive skin. Its microbiome-friendly formulas are developed with veterinary dermatologists and are 100% vegan and hypoallergenic.

These products show just how far pet grooming has evolved. Shampoo is no longer simply about getting a dog clean, it can support the skin barrier, microbiome, sensitivity, and overall wellness.

The Pet Aisle Is Looking More Like Ours

SuperZoo reinforced that idea that trends shaping human food, wellness, and personal care are quickly finding their way into pet products. But it goes deeper than simply the trends themselves. Pet owners are applying the same expectations to the products they buy for their animals such as recognizable ingredients, targeted benefits, cleaner formulations, thoughtful design, and convenience without compromise.

Whether it’s food formulated for longevity, raw nutrition without the thaw time, functional water, or microbiome-friendly shampoo, innovation is increasingly focused on helping pets live healthier lives at every touchpoint. Because when pets are part of the family, we want better, more purposeful products.
