“Everything is bigger in Texas” might apply to most things in Austin, but not Tiny Grocer. The name says it all. Tiny Grocer is probably one of the smallest in Austin especially compared to the Whole Foods Lamar store and Home Depot size HEBs. Located at the end of busy South Congress sits Tiny Grocer with a retro look and a classic black and white striped awning. The store immediately draws you in with its small to-go window offering coffee and iced cold beverages, a necessity for the Austin heat. They got me at Frose All Day.

Inside, the store is small, yet mighty with perfectly organized shelves that make for easy shopping. Tiny Grocer strives to be Austin’s #1 shop for small batch, locally produced items. One can see that on the shelves. There is BBQ sauce from Franklin’s Barbecue, ice cream pints and sandwiches from Lick Honest Ice Cream, Queso from Tacodeli and coffee beans from Superthing Coffee Roasters. There is a small organic produce section filled with necessities like lemons, limes, onions and garlic. The focus is for sure on the shelf stable products including baking goods, beans, pasta, snacks and more. There is also a nice range of wine, beer, and n/a products as well as housewares and body.

In the back of the store one can order from their Tiny Delicatessen featuring breakfast all day, lunch sandwiches, salads, soups, and a pre-made deli case. Items include roasted salmon filet, curried chicken salad, brussels sprout slaw, vegan mushroom, leek & potato frittata, sesame noodle salad, and a range of empanadas. The focus again is on good, healthy food made with local produce and products. It’s made to be easily picked up any time of day.

Whether you are just shopping on South Congress or looking for a quick bite to eat, Tiny Grocer is a great spot to check out and support local.
